Le Havre, the cruise port and the Normandy coast

Le Havre is 210 km from Paris on the A13, a little over two hours, and it is the reason most people book it: the cruise terminal. A ship sailing in the evening wants its passengers there in the afternoon, with their luggage, on a day they have also had to get out of a hotel — and a terminal gate is not a place to be improvising a connection.

The train from Saint-Lazare takes about the same time as the car, so this is not an argument about speed. It is an argument about the two ends. At the Paris end you are leaving a hotel with four cases; at the Le Havre end the station is not the terminal, and a taxi rank on a day when four thousand people are joining the same ship is a queue. The car takes your luggage from one door and puts it down at the other. If you are arriving on a ship rather than leaving on one, the same holds in reverse, and we meet the disembarkation rather than the timetable.

Le Havre is also the right base for the coast, and worth a day of its own: Auguste Perret's rebuilt centre is UNESCO-listed, Étretat's cliffs are forty minutes up the coast, and Honfleur is twenty minutes across the Pont de Normandie. Any of those can be added as a stop — tell your driver, or ask us when you book.

Le Havre questions

  • Do you drop off at the Le Havre cruise terminal?

Yes, at the terminal your ship is using rather than at a general port entrance — tell us the ship and the sailing date when you book. For an arrival we meet the disembarkation, which is usually slower than the scheduled docking time.

  • The train takes about the same time. Why a car?

It does, so this is not about speed. It is about the two ends: leaving a Paris hotel with four cases, and arriving at a station that is not the terminal on a day when a whole ship is checking in. The car carries the luggage from one door to the other.

  • Where can you collect me for Le Havre?

From Paris, Charles de Gaulle, Orly or Beauvais — the four fares are on this page. Beauvais is the closest of the airports, which the price reflects.

  • Can we add a stop on the way?

Yes. Honfleur, Étretat, Rouen and the D-Day beaches are all on or near the same roads, and a stop is agreed when you book rather than negotiated in the car. It changes the price, and you see the new price before you confirm.

  • Is this a one-way transfer or a day trip?

Either. A one-way transfer takes you there and the driver returns; a day trip keeps the car and driver with you and is priced by the hour. For two or more places in a day, the day trip is both cheaper and simpler.

  • How long does Normandy take from Paris?

It depends where: Rouen is about an hour and a half, Le Havre and Honfleur a little over two hours, Bayeux and the landing beaches around three, and Mont-Saint-Michel closer to four. Each destination's own page carries its fare from all four pickup points.

  • Can I book a transfer to the airport?

Yes. A transfer runs in either direction — pick the airport as your destination instead of your pickup point and the price is the same fixed fare.

  • What pickup time should I choose if I am flying out?

Plan your pickup at least 3 hours before your flight departs. For Beauvais, make it 4 hours — it is the furthest of the three airports from Paris.

  • Do I pay extra if my flight is delayed and the driver has to wait?

No. We track your flight and the driver arrives when you actually land. Waiting is free for the first 120 minutes after landing, and a delay never changes the fare.

  • Can I book without a credit card?

Yes. Choose to pay the driver in cash at the last step of the booking and nothing is charged online. You pay at the end of the trip.
